Quality Control Success Story
When you're buying a piece of fruit, such as an apple, you immediately evaluate its value: its colour appeal, size and shape, and if it's intact or damaged. When you take the first bite, you’ll know if you judged the apple correctly and if it's really worth the price you paid. After all, even a perfect-looking apple might have a worm or a sour taste. This is the simplest form of quality control.
The same goes with case fans (maybe just don't bite into them). But besides looking great, you expect your cooling products to perform well and last a long time, right? No matter how great your fans look at the first glimpse, if your cooling results get worse or the bearings get noisy over time, you’ll probably need to replace them soon. With ARCTIC fans this is not a problem since you have 6 years manufacturer's warranty.
But how can we offer such a long guarantee period? One of the reasons we put so much faith in our long-lasting products is enhanced quality control.
Long-term tests for over 10 years
Quality control is not a new thing at ARCTIC. We all know that our fans run for ages. Recently, we got an inspiring message from our engineering team. They informed us that our ARCTIC F12 PWM PST CO has been running continuously for 3 years and 1 month in a 70 °C chamber with no issues. The fan has been running 16 hours a day and 26 days a month. The fact that the CO fans can function in very harsh conditions for such a long time was a pleasant surprise even to our own engineers. The longest fan in the test has been running since May 2010 and has thus already achieved a runtime of over 50,000 hours.
These results made us curious, so we met our quality engineer John Lui to ask him to tell us about the testing process and ARCTIC quality controls. In the next section, you'll learn what John told us about our product quality controls.
Strict quality controls
To guarantee a long service life for our case fans, we have implemented enhanced longevity testing since 2010. This is a part of ARCTIC's promise to our customers. We are delivering quality fans, taking product lifespan seriously, and working meticulously on quality improvements.
Our quality controller regularly checks factory samples and carries out additional tests:
- Test under non-continuous operation conditions
- Electrical loading and unloading tests
- Vibration test
Our checking points cover effects on:
- Speed regulation and overall performance
- Lubricant sealing between shaft and bearing
- Plastic strength and stiffness
- Electrical components service life and behavior
- Loudness and noise emission
And these procedures should, in the end, benefit our customers.
